Astra Theme Review: Is It Really The Best WordPress Theme?
Astra Theme is undoubtedly one of the most popular WordPress themes for Bloggers to use in 2020, but why is it so highly rated?
Well, in this Astra theme review I will go through the finer details of the theme itself so you can decide whether it is the right theme for your website.
Some of the features I will discuss in the article include:
- Theme Speed & Performance
- Design Features
- Starter Site Library
- Layout Options
- Visual Typography & Color Options
- Support & Documentation
Who Created Astra Theme?
Brainstorm Force is the company behind the Astra theme, along with many other WordPress products and services. Brainstorm Force has been in business since 2009 and has grown considerably since its inception.
Other products from Brainstorm that you may be familiar with include Schema Pro, Convert Pro, Cart Flows, Ultimate Addons for Beaver Builder, and Ultimate Addons for Elementor.
It’s safe to say that the team at Brainstorm have an excellent, long-standing reputation in the WordPress community.
Noteworthy Astra Theme Features
If you’re an agency owner you’ll be happy to know that Astra offers Pro users a White Label option. The White Label option is great for agencies wanting to include their own branding instead of Astra’s.
Speed & Performance
Astra is highly regarded as a super-fast WordPress theme, coming in second after GeneratePress on a speed test conducted by WP Rocket. We all know that bounce rates go through the roof if your site takes more than a couple of seconds to load, so Astra ticks the box for this one.
Astra has packed a lot of design features into their theme including numerous header options, allowing you to position your brand logo in different locations relative to whichever menu location option you go with. Header & sidebar widgets are available for use, along with the option to have two-footer sections which is a rare feature amongst some of the other more popular WordPress themes.
Theme Layout Options
If choice is what you want when it comes to the layout of your blog, Astra has no shortage of options. Layout options include boxed, full-width, padded, or fluid and you’ve even got the option to have full control over the margins and padding around individual elements. Blog layout options are abundant too however, most of them seem to only be available on the Pro version of Astra.
Visual Typography & Color Options
Astra Theme gives you the option of over 700 Google fonts, custom font upload, and also some neat features like responsive font sizes. There’s no shortage when it comes to color choices either. Astra gives you the ability to customize colors for your different header style options as well as above/below the header. Content, blog/archive, single page, sidebar, and footer area colors are also easily changed in the theme customizer settings.
If course creation is your thing, you’ll be pleased to know that Astra allows seamless integration with LifterLMS and LearnDash. The theme also includes inbuilt basic schema markups which is a great little addition.
Ecommerce studies are predicting retail spending to hit $4.9 trillion by 2021, so it’s no wonder that Astra theme is packed with WooCommerce-specific features. Astra theme even has some fantastic online store templates in its site library, making it super friendly for online retailers.
Astra Starter Site Templates
Rather than trying to push a custom builder, Astra makes great use of some of our favorite page builders when it comes to their starter site templates.
Astra makes it super simple to import their templates with the Starter Templates plugin, and it will even install and activate the relevant plugins required.
Take a look at a small selection of the Astra starter sites on offer below.
Astra Theme Pricing
Astra comes in both Free and Pro versions. You can grab the free version of Astra from WordPress.org or you can choose between three different Pro tiers.
Astra Pro comes in at $59 annually for unlimited websites, or $249 for lifetime. You’ve also got the option of their Mini Agency Bundle for $169 a year and $499 for lifetime, or the Agency Bundle for $249 per year or $699 lifetime.
The average user probably doesn’t need to opt for the agency upgrades, but for those that do, you’ll get some extras like more starter site templates and some of the other plugins that Brainstorm has created.
Support & Documentation
Reviews around the web are generally positive when it comes to the support system provided by Astra and the documentation library is well equipped with plenty of articles. One of our pet peeves is the lack of support and/or documentation, but Astra theme seems to deliver quite nicely on this one.
Unlike GeneratePress, there doesn’t appear to be a dedicated support forum for Astra however they have a large Facebook Group which is quite often better in my humble opinion.
Astra Theme Review – Final Thoughts
The aesthetics and overall performance of Astra Theme is hard to beat and let’s be honest, we knew this review would be mostly positive coming into it!
The price of Astra theme might be slightly higher than your average premium WordPress theme, but it’s also one of the best so in this case, we’re not going to squabble over a few extra bucks.
Whether it’s for a side log project, corporate website, or an eCommerce store, Astra Theme is a great option right now.
You can always just try the free version of Astra Theme and test it out for yourself, so what have you got to lose?
